russia is considered the homeland of ‘blue whale’. the game surfaced on the internet in 2013 and activated itself over the course of time. from november 2015 to april 2016 130 teenage suicides cases were recorded across russia.

exercise: verify a single story through different methods

it's especially important to verify a story through open sources and using various verification methods when you have very little information about its media source and there is a possibility you are dealing with a hidden web page.

exercise 1.1. selection of topic for a news story

the aim of the exercise is to help participants understand criteria for identifying newsworthiness of a story. the exercise consists of three stages: the first stage involves the selection of topic based on personal experience, the second stage envisages the same but based on the experience of other people, and the third stage involves discussion.
