On March 11, 2019, in cooperation with Lado Apkhazava, teacher of civic education at Lanchkhuti Municipality’s school of Chibati village, MDF held a training in media and information literacy for Lanchkhuti school teachers.
The following issues were discussed at the training: competences of critical analysis of media content based on UNESCO criteria; media environment and media functions; information, sources, balance, media self regulation and ethics; transparency of ownership and financing of media; propaganda methods and means of verifying fake news - resources for fake photo and video verification, verification of fake websites and searching for archives, geolocation; cybersecurity issues; cyberbullying and trolls. Within the framework of the training the participants got acquainted with ancillary online games and exercises that were developed especially for this program.
The training was held by Tamar Kintsurashvili, executive director of Media development Foundation, Sopho Gelava, head of media literacy programs at MDF, Andro Gotsiridze, cybersecurity expert and Nana Rapava, MDF’s expert.
The event was attended by 27 teachers from schools located in Lanchkhuti Municipality villages Chibati, Lesa, Khadjalia, Nigvziani, Djurukhveti, Supsa and Lanchkhuti city.
The event was held within the framework of the project “Promoting Media Literacy and Critical Thinking in Schools”, supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands.
