On 10 January, 2020 Media Development Foundation (MDF) hosted the 1st edition of Media Literacy Forum at Fabrika.

Participants of the Media Literacy Forum 2019 - alumni of MDF’s media literacy programs, regional fact-checkers and other invited guests - were actively involved in interactive workshops on identifying internet trolls and fact-checking information using Geolocation tools. The forum also hosted a game fair, where participants played educational online games - "Troll Island”, " Quack hunter”, " Measure the Truth and your Nose!” - developed by MDF and were awarded with symbolic prizes, as part of the forum’s mini competition.

The Media Literacy Forum 2019 continued with MDF’s regional fact-checkers presenting the findings of the Anecdotal Evidence Research, that they conducted and the most spread conspiracies and fakes they collected in 4 regions of Georgia, namely: Adjara (Batumi, Khulo); Samtskhe-Javakheti (Akhalkalaki, Akhaltsikhe); Shida Kartli (Gori, Tserovani); Kakheti (Telavi, Kvareli).

At the closing ceremony, MDF announced the Most Media Literate Youngster 2019 and other winners of a media literacy quiz competition. Teona Kheladze, a student of Tbilisi Cervantes Gymnasium and Giga Chaligava, a student of Tbilisi State University shared the 3rd place and were awarded by ForSet. The 2nd place went to the TSU student David Nemsadze, who was awarded by news portal On.ge, while the winner of the special prize - a one-month internship at the Myth Detector - became Ilia Sadghobelashvili, a student of the Chala Public School in Sachkhere. The winner - Most Media Literate Youngster 2019 - became Lika Chkhetiani, student at TSU, and was awarded by Catherine Schweitzer, Head of Public Affairs at the US Embassy in Tbilisi.

The award ceremony continued as MDF announced MythLabers and regional fact-checkers that were selected for different nominations, after summarizing 2019.The Most Active Fact-checker 2019 became Irakli Iagorashvili. "H1N1 Flu Emerged Two Years before Opening Lugar Lab” was selected as the Most Popular Article of 2019 and the author Nika Gurini was awarded at the ceremony. Ani Kistauri received a prize for finding the most internet trolls in 2019, while Giorgi Orkodashvili became the winner in the nomination of " Self-Detox” for writing the article " How Russian website made me a fake Wunderkind fighting against Papilloma”. And finally, Mariam Topchishvili was awarded for preparing an article on the Most Absurd Story of 2019 - "A fictional story, as if a 91-year-old nun is selling her virginity to support restoration of Notre-Dame”. Winners of all nominations received certificates and symbolic prizes.

The project is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi. The forum aims to become an annual event supporting media literacy, a space to share best practices and an award ceremony for the Most Media Literate Youngster.
